My name is Elise Hicks, 24. I am a graduate of Liberty University (’20) with a degree in Family and Child Development, with minors in psychology and sociology. In addition, I have extensive experience working with trauma, crisis care, and counseling.
Since my first mission trip to Honduras in 2015, God placed a desire in my heart to do orphan care! We served at a boy’s home that did not have parents to raise these young gentlemen… this broke my heart. In a matter of days, I decided that I wanted to fix that problem– to be a house mom for those precious boys!
Attending LU was a way to learn practical information, tangible skills, and to gain resources to achieve that goal. The home actually closed while I was in the middle of my degree, but God had not led me astray! There is another international organization I work with now that has family-style children’s homes– the exact format I wanted to create. Currently, I am a volunteer who helps with summer missions teams, teaches English, gives site-wite emotional/behavioral support, and develops age-appropriate Bible curriculum for the kids.
This life is not what I imagined, it is so much better. God is good. Thank you, GradPrep, for helping me reach this goal!
